Some of the major threads raised in Season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be coming to a head in the finale, if a new teaser released today during New York Comic Con today is any indication.
This new look contains some old footage, but also a few glimpses of what’s to come. Perhaps most notable: some major battles and what could be the reveal of Lord Sauron. Oh, and a glimpse of that ferocious Balrog that we saw in an earlier trailer.

In addition to the trailer, exclusive footage was shown to fans at NYCC. It showed Gil-galad, Elrond, Galadriel and Celebrimbor in the king’s council room, with Celebrimbor explaining that they need to create something that would channel all the power they need and entrust it to one person — Gil-Galad — and it must be put into one object … preferably something circular.
Celebrimbor suggests a crown but, Gil-Galad warns that putting so much power into one object and entrusting it to anyone is a bad idea, and that it may be too late because the leaves are falling off the tree of life faster and faster ever since the eruption. In response, Celebrimbor snaps angrily that he did try to get it sooner — an angry outburst that was very curious and rather out of character.
Amazon has been very secretive about the finale, even going so far as to block out the pages of individuals scripts so the actors wouldn’t know what their cohorts were up to. They all joked that they were Sauron in the run-up to the finale.
No matter what, it looks like the stakes are higher than ever for Galadriel and company. “Mordor will rise,” one tagline in the teaser warns. “Heroes will fall.” As IGN noted in our 10/10 review of Episode 6, Udûn, the battle in the Southlands dealt “an enormous blow to the heroes.”
There’s a good chance we won’t get all the answers in the Season 1 finale, though. Prime Video’s committed to five season of Rings of Power, so there are plenty of major Middle-earth plot points left to see. The series began production on its second season just outside of London earlier this week.
