While Reading was crowned the sunniest place in the UK, Eastbourne is Britain’s sunniest seaside town.

The quirky coastal town was recently named the best place to visit in the UK by Time Out Travel.

Eastbourne’s Towner art gallery will host the 2023 Turner Prize from September and the town also has a growing number of independent restaurants and shops.

One of the destination’s top attractions is Beachy Head, Britain’s highest chalk sea cliff at 530 feet tall.

A tourist ‘DianaC12’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Stunning views and amazing experience with family.”

Another tourist ‘Nur53y’ said: “What a wonderful place. The views were stunning even on a windswept morning.”

Other top spots to enjoy the sunshine include Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters, Eastbourne Beach and the Sovereign Harbour Marina.

The town is also the conclusion of the South Downs Way so tourists who tackle the walk could be rewarded with fish and chips at the end.

Seaside destinations dominated the list with Torquay, Great Yarmouth and Bognor Regis rounding off the top five.

Hastings, Broadstairs and Weymouth also made the top 10 meaning the beach is probably the best place to be if you’re looking for sunshine.

However, if the beach isn’t your thing, you could head to the winning destination of Reading. Tourists can enjoy lunch at one of the city’s riverside restaurants.

Reading Museum even has a Victorian replica of the Bayeux Tapestry while Basildon Park is an incredible National Trust site.

Anna McEntee, travel insurance expert at Comparethemarket, said: “From city breaks to beach havens, the UK has such a varied landscape to explore.

“Many of us have not fully experienced what is on our doorstep and a staycation can be the key to making the most of these cultural British hotspots.

“Holidaying on home soil can be just as exciting as travelling abroad but regardless of where you’re going, it is always important to check what type of travel insurance you might need to cover you and your valuables.”

While these are the sunniest spots based on averages, it’s very hard to predict weather long-range in the UK.
