The Who classic track chosen for King’s official Coronation playlist | Music | Entertainment
It’s been almost 60 years since The Who formed and became one of the most influential rock bands of the last century. The much-loved British group led by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend have now been honoured by having one of their classic tracks selected for King Charles III’s official Coronation Celebration Playlist on Spotify. In fact, it was part of their set at Live Aid in 1985, which was watched by the King formerly known as Prince.
The playlist of 27 songs has been hand-selected on behalf of His Majesty by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and includes plenty of classic acts like Queen, The Beatles and Sir Tom Jones among the newer ones.
And the 25th track on The King’s official Coronation Celebration Playlist happens to be The Who’s Love Reign O’er Me. The 1973 song was written and composed by Townshend as the second single from the band’s sixth studio album, their second rock opera, Quadrophenia. It’s the final song on the record and has been performed at the band’s concerts for years.

Love, Reign o’er Me’s lyrics concerns the main character of Quadrophenia during a personal crisis. Despite having nothing left to live for, he ends up finding spiritual redemption in the pouring rain.
The Who performed the track during Live Aid at Wembley Stadium on July 13 1985 after being introduced by Jack Nicholson. Their four-song set also included My Generation, Pinball Wizard and Won’t Get Fooled Again.
