This is what the Nothing Phone 1 looks like

TL;DR

  • Nothing and Flipkart have posted an image showing the back of the Phone 1.
  • The image indeed shows that the phone has a transparent back of sorts.
  • We can also make out a dual rear camera system here.

Nothing, the new startup by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has been incessantly teasing its upcoming Nothing Phone 1 smartphone for a while now. We got a few teaser images earlier this week, and now the company and Flipkart have revealed the back design in full.

The image (seen above) shows the rear cover of the phone in full, and it indeed looks like we’ve got a transparent back. However, the wireless charging coil looks like the main element that’s visible here. We can also spot a Nothing logo on the back of the device, although we’re not sure if this also serves a practical purpose (e.g. a magnet for accessories).

The Nothing Phone 1 render also shows a dual rear camera system with a flash and unspecified sensor next to the housing. We hope this setup consists of a main camera and telephoto or ultrawide shooter rather than a token 2MP macro camera or something similarly gimmicky.

What do you think of the Nothing Phone 1 design?

Otherwise, the phone packs flat edges along with iPhone-style antenna strips at the top and bottom. This is in line with the company’s previously teased images. Nothing also posted a video earlier this week, showing that the wireless charging coil is capable of lighting up.

Either way, it looks like the transparent back here seems less bombastic than efforts from the likes of HTC and Xiaomi in the past. Xiaomi in particular simply pasted dummy parts on the back of its Mi 8 Explorer Edition back in 2018.

Of course, the design is only one part of the puzzle. We’re still waiting for more specs to emerge, and we’re sure Nothing will post a drip-feed of information in the lead-up to the July 12 event.

What do you think of the Nothing Phone 1 design though? Let us know via our poll above.
