Tom Cruise left Hollywood star ‘miserable’ during fantasy movie feud | Films | Entertainment

Later tonight, at 10pm on Channel 5, Tom Cruise takes to the small screen to play Brian Flanagan in the epic 1988 movie Cocktail. While this decade was Cruise’s most prolific era of filmmaking – having joined such franchises as Top Gun, Young Guns, Jerry MaGuire, Legend and Risky Business – not every film project was a pleasure for him. In 1994 Cruise joined the epic Vampire Chronicles series where he played Lestat de Lioncourt. But behind the scenes, his blood was boiling.

Cruise played opposite Brad Pitt in Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, the sexually-charged thriller that spanned centuries and explored complex relationships.

Pitt took on the role of Louis de Pointe du Lac in the movie, Lestat’s undead minion and lover. But by the end of filming, the two blood-suckers were at one another’s’ throats for other reasons entirely.

Pitt later confessed he was left feeling “miserable” after spending weeks filming alongside Cruise. He added: “He bugged me. There came a point during filming when I started really resenting him.”

When asked to clarify exactly what happened between them, Pitt would not reveal the truth. Instead, he said: “He’s North Pole, I’m South. He’s always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you.”

Pitt also blamed Cruise’s desire to be the best as a constant struggle between them. He went on: “There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation.”

Years later, Pitt still had not gotten over the drama he had endured with Cruise during the vampire movie shoot.

The Fight Club star took aim at Cruise’s 2008 movie Valkyrie. He reportedly called it a “ridiculous movie”. However, Pitt’s representatives later claimed he never made this comment.

Their squabbling did not stop there, however.

In 2010, Cruise was down to play the lead character, Edwin Salt, in the spy thriller Salt.

Of course, when the film’s production started, the character was rewritten as a woman, with Angelina Jolie as the production company’s first choice. As fans may recall, Jolie and Pitt were currently engaged at this time.

Cruise was reportedly not happy about being passed over for Salt, and to see Pitt at the side of the woman who replaced him must have been a tough pill to swallow.

Despite that, there have been some raunchy rumours about Cruise and Jolie over the years.

Entertainment Times reported that Jolie and Cruise have “always been interested” in one another. And, most recently, they have been “trying to work out” if they are “a good match” or not. Whether or not they do try to date, the awkwardness between Cruise and Pitt will be palpable.

The two A-listers have not worked together since 1994’s Interview with the Vampire, and – although this isn’t proof they did or didn’t have a feud – it is peculiar. Through the years, Cruise and Pitt have respectively worked with dozens of Hollywood stars. But still, to this day, have not worked together again.

At 58-years-old, Pitt’s days of feuding another Hollywood actor are likely behind him. Instead, he has recently been hitting headlines because of his new relationship.

Recent reports have claimed that Pitt and Emily Ratajkoswki were originally “hanging out as friends”, but are now “getting to know each other”.

Pitt is reportedly in the “very early stages” of a relationship with the 31-year-old actor. An insider told Us Weekly, that the actors “like each other”. They added that they are “excited to see where things go”.

Cocktail airs on Channel 5 at 10pm.

Interview with the Vampire is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.
