Ubisoft has announced that they will be delaying the decommissioning of older Assassin’s Creed titles by one month, reportedly due to the publisher wanting to “reduce disruption” for their player base.
Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced that they would be decommissioning the online services for some of their older titles, including Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and various Assassin’s Creed titles. The shutdown of these online services is a “necessity”, according to Ubisoft, as the technology that drove those services has become obsolete.
The decommissioning of older Ubisoft titles was due to take place on the 1st of September 2022, but has now been moved back by one month, to the 1st of October 2022.
In a recently released statement, Ubisoft states that “decommissioning online services for older games is something [they] don’t take lightly”. They went on to express that they “want [their] players to enjoy optimal gameplay experiences without things breaking, potentially subjecting players to crashes and security breaches”.
As a result, the team has reportedly been forced to move the decommission date to the beginning of October, in order to make the process as smooth as possible for those still playing older titles. The games included in the decommissioning process are:
- Assassin’s Creed II
- Assassin’s Creed 3 (2012 Release)
- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
- Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD
- Assassin’s Creed Revelations
- Driver San Francisco
- Far Cry 3 (2012 Release)
- Ghost Recon Future Soldier
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
- Rayman Legends
- Silent Hunter 5
- Space Junkies
- Splinter Cell: Blacklist
- ZombiU
The online services for many of the games listed above will enter Ubisoft’s list of decommissioned games from October 1st, apart from Space Junkies, which is still scheduled to be decommissioned on September 1st. The publisher did express that DLC for single-player titles on PC, such as Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed III (2012 release), Far Cry 3 and Splinter Cell Blacklist, will still be available to download and keep before the decommission date.
Ubisoft also states, “There will be no impact to the same single-player DLC on consoles, and you will continue to be able to download and play them after 1 October 2022”. The full announcement regarding the upcoming decommissioning can be found on the publisher’s website.
