Universal Credit and other benefits claimants may lose payments if they travel abroad | Personal Finance | Finance
In some situations, an extended absence can be approved by the DWP meaning a person no longer has to look for work over a certain period. This may be because of a bereavement or while undergoing medical treatment.
PIP claimants will need to inform the DWP the date they are leaving the country, how long they will be away and why they are going abroad.
DWP guidance for PIP states: “A temporary absence abroad for up to 13 weeks may be allowed, or up to 26 weeks if the absence is specifically for medical treatment. The claimant should notify us if they are planning to go abroad for four weeks or more.”
The same conditions also apply to Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance.
