The Household Support Fund was introduced towards the tail end of 2021 to help struggling households pay for food, clothing and utilities.
The money will be given on a discretionary basis to families in need and local councils have been getting in touch with households it thinks might benefit, with some offering funds of up to £100.
At the initial launch, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak said it could help families weather the cost of living storm.
He said: “Our new Household Support Fund will provide a lifeline for those at risk of struggling to keep up with their bills over the winter, adding to the support the government is already providing to help people with the cost of living.”
