Visceral fat could be ‘lowered’ with calcium and vitamin D – backed by study

The treatment groups consumed three 240ml glasses of orange juice (regular or light) fortified with 350mg calcium and 100IU vitamin D per serving, and the control groups consumed either unfortified regular or light orange juice.

The study said: “After 16 weeks, the average weight loss (-2.45 kg) did not differ significantly between groups.

“In the regular orange juice trial, the reduction of visceral adipose tissue was significantly greater in the calcium and vitamin D group than in the control group.

“In the light orange juice trial, the reduction of visceral adipose tissue was significantly greater in the calcium and vitamin D group than in the control group after control for baseline visceral adipose tissue.
