Despite the array of roles she has played on screen, Wamiqa Gabbi confesses to have been challenged by the part of a mute medical student in Mai.

Gabbi, who learnt the sign language for the Netflix web-series, says, “I have always enjoyed doing different things, and learning about things that I am unaware of. That’s what attracted me to this film. Both Anshai Lal and Atul Mongia, the director-duo of the series, added different shades and layers to this role. It became a well-rounded and complex part. As a young actor, I feel lucky to play a part where one has to communicate through sign language.”

Gabbi says she found promise in the script’s premise, as well as the power-packed team that was backing it.  “I had the privilege to work with amazing talents like Sakshi ma’am [Tanwar], Raima [Sen], Seema ma’am [Pahwa], and Prashant [Narayan],” says the actor, who was last seen in Kabir Khan’s cricket drama, 83, and will soon be seen in the India adaptation of Modern Love.
