Facebook has officially announced today that the WhatsApp will start displaying Ads in the Status section in the form of WhatsApp Stories starting from 2020.
The company has made this announcement at an annual Facebook Marketing Summit in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Not only they announced but also they displayed how they actually appear when it will go live.
The latest pictures of the Ads has been shared on Twitter by Olivier Ponteville, the media head at a digital marketing agency based out of Brussels. As shown by the company, the Ads will be displayed in the form of WhatsApp Stories just like Instagram stories. As explained by the Olivier, the Ads will be displayed entirely on the screen where a link of the respected Ads website will be embedded.

WhatsApp Status is used to share text, pictures, and videos with the contact lists that appear for a duration of 24 hours. And so the company has been targetting this feature to turn it in revenue by displaying Ads in the status section.
Facebook first planned to display Ads in the stories in October 2018. However, at that time it was opposed by Facebook’s co-founder Brian Actron and he left the company for this. But just after a few months, Mark Zuckerberg has now confirmed to show Ads in WhatsApp.
One of WhatsApp’s co-founders, Brian Acton, earlier mentioned in an interview that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was in a rush to make money from the messaging service, undermining key elements of the messaging service’s encryption technology. “Targeted advertising is what makes me unhappy,” Acton said.
Meanwhile, the advertisement displaying on the WhatsApp will be powered by Facebook’s own advertising system and would be aimed at helping users understand and participate in businesses using the messaging app. It will be rolled out soon in the starting 2020.
