WhatsApp has been quite active in adding new features to the instant messaging app to compete with other rival services like Telegram and Signal. The latest feature that is being tested by the Meta-owned platform is expected to make it easier for users to understand what is new on the platform. According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently developing a new chatbot that will introduce users to an official WhatsApp account within the app which will also send messages to notify them about new features as they arrive.
WhatsApp’s new chatbot availability
As per the report, the new feature is in the early stages of development. So, the company might take some time before widely rolling out the feature. However, the report has shared some screenshots to show how the upcoming chat will appear from the verified chatbot.
How will this new feature work
The report mentions that on opening the chat, users will be able to see a notification that claims to offer information about new features, tips and tricks for WhatsApp, along with information about privacy and safety.

Furthermore, this official account will be different from business accounts on WhatsApp as users won’t be able to reply to any of these messages. Being a read-only account, this chat will serve as a mere notification system for WhatsApp to inform users about new features and updates that are being added to the platform.
The report also mentions that these messages will be end-to-end encrypted and if users need WhatsApp support they will have to contact the company through other means. Meanwhile, users can also choose to stop this conversation from appearing on their feed and will be allowed to block the chat from messaging them in the future.

According to a report by Android Police, this chatbot feature is very similar to the one offered by rival messaging apps Telegram and Signal, where both platforms use an official channel to update users about new releases. The report also reveals that some users have recently started receiving revamped rich link previews on their WhatsApp accounts.
