Where to watch The Last of Us

The Last of Us cast

The Last of is directed by Neil Druckmann, who is the co-president of Naughty Dog. Along with showrunner Craig Mazin, the two hope to create an accurate adaptation of the beloved video game. Here is the cast of The Last of Us series:

  • Pedro Pascal as Joel
  • Bella Ramsey as Ellie
  • Gabriel Luna as Tommy
  • Merle Dandridge as Marlene
  • Anna Torv as Tess
  • Nick Offerman as Bill
  • Ashley Johnson as Anna
  • Troy Baker as James

Pedro Pascal’s Joel is a bit different

Co-creators Druckmann and Mazin said that they had to change how Joel would be portrayed while interacting with his environment. The duo have shared that it couldn’t be the same as in the video game. “There are certain things that we embrace about our medium that are different than the game medium,” Mazin told Polygon. “In the game, you need a healing mechanic; you get shot a lot, you have to heal. You get shot once in reality.” The creators have gone for more realism in the TV adaptation.

Merle Dandridge explains difference between acting in game vs live action

Merle Dandridge has played Marlene in The Last of Us video game and she is also reprising the character in the TV adaptation. As Dandridge reprised her role after a decade in a different medium, she said her core knowledge remained the same. But how she acts in the new project is adjusted, especially when working together with new actors who are playing opposite characters.

“I was able to walk out scenarios in her life and her experience that had only existed in my imagination, having built the character 10 years ago, and that was a true delight,” she told Collider.

Bella Ramsey on backlash she got for getting cast as Ellie

Bella Ramsey stars as Ellie, the 14-year-old girl that is the main character in The Last of Us, besides Joel Miller. Joel takes Ellie through a post-apocalyptic United States to find the cure for the zombie infestation around them.

When Ramsey was cast as Ellie, fan reaction was negative. Ramsey said that she was upset by the backlash, but now she has accepted her role as Ellie.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever had a negative reaction to something,” Ellie told The New York Times. “There would be times I’d find it funny. Then I’d get to the end of a 10-minute scrolling session, put my phone down and realize: Maybe that was a bad idea.”

“It’s only recently that I’ve accepted I am Ellie, and I can do it, and I am a good actor, but this will last for a few weeks and then I’ll think I’m terrible again. That’s just the process,” the actor said.
