After a few days of teasing, developer Playtonic and publisher Team17 have released the trailer of the Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. This time, Yooka-Laylee is releasing its follow-up in a 2.5D platform instead of a 3D platform.
The first game in the series was a 3D platformer full of sentimentality. That game gets overwhelming support from the audience and has been sold over a million copies. And now, the developers are ready to push the follow up of the first game. But it is surprising that Playtonic is going away from 3D platforming and taking the series to the second(.5) dimension.
Even after that, the levels and graphics look beautiful. Yooka-Laylee is crisp and visually striking. However, It will be interesting to see how the devs handle the switch to 2.5D. But still, 3D platformers can be a little floatier than their 2.5D counterparts.
Based on the little portrait that we see in the trailer, it seems like the game might function as an enhanced version of Donkey Kong Country 3. That is to say that you’ll navigate between 2D levels by exploring a 3D overworld loaded with puzzles, collectibles, and secrets.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is set to be released sometime in 2019 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One.
