Over the past few weeks, we are getting some hints that Nintendo Switch will support some additional video streaming service platform in addition to Hulu App. The anticipations are now over as YouTube has officially arrived on Nintendo Switch, no subscription service is required as it is available for free.
The news has been confirmed when Nintedo has officially announced the service via a tweet. “Kick back and relax with @YouTube on your #NintendoSwitch. Enjoy entertainment like music videos and shows, plus gaming livestreams, how-to guides and much more. YouTube is now available to download from Nintendo #eShop”, the company says.
The YouTube app lets you watch anything on YouTube, both in docked and handheld modes. You can access a lot of original content from users, along with livestreams, how-to guides, music, 360 videos, and more. You can also use your Google account to log in to access your preferences, playlists, and recommendations.
You can also use the Switch YouTube app to stream Movie titles that you have purchased, just go to your Movies Anywhere library or videos from a saved playlist. But currently, you cannot download videos for offline viewing even for YouTube Premium subscribers.
You can navigate through the app using Switch’s left joystick and main buttons, or the touchscreen when in handheld mode. The only problem as of now is the right JoyCon joystick as it can’t be used to navigate around the app, you can only use it to pan around 360-degree videos. YouTube however, promises to continue the evaluation of the best ways of using Nintendo’s hardware.
You can now find and download the app on the Nintendo Switch eShop, and it takes up 89 MB of your console’s memory. Netflix and Amazon Video might also be on its way, we just don’t know yet, but everything is possible. So stay tuned with TechnoCodex to be always updated.
