Adelaide Strikers star Rashid Khan threatens to quit BBL over Afghanistan tour cancellation

Afghanistan and Adelaide Strikers star Rashid Khan declared he will be “strongly considering” his future in the Big Bash League in the aftermath of Australia’s decision to cancel its three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE.

Citing the Taliban’s treatment of women, Cricket Australia confirmed it would not proceed with the series after consulting stakeholders and the Australian Government.

The move angered Afghan cricket officials and players, including Khan, who took to social media to express his unhappiness and also threaten to leave his BBL team the Strikers.

“I am really disappointed to hear that Australia have pulled out of the series to play us in March,” Khan wrote.

“I take great pride in representing my country and we have made great progress on the world stage. This decision from CA sets us back in that journey.

“If playing vs Afghanistan is so uncomfortable for Australia then I wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence in the BBL.

“Therefore, I will be strongly considering my future in that competition.”

Khan’s threat to walk away was supported by fellow Afghanistan and Sydney Sixers bowler Naveen-ul-Haq.

Naveen wrote that he “won’t be participating in big bash until they stop these childish decisions.”
