It is uncertain whether her presence will still be welcome among some of those who had previously idolised her, as the atmosphere becomes increasingly hostile in the wake of the cancellations.

@catching_finn on Instagram branded her a disgrace, swiping: “Plenty of session musicians out there that can do everything your band can plus I’m amazed there wasn’t contingency plans for such problems already in place for a contract that’s paying you half a million per gig. You need to refund everyone who has booked holiday and bought plane and hotel tickets for a start. Totally unprofessional.”

@dedhd691 echoed: “How about you give us the opportunity to get our money back. I’ve already got 1000 invested in hotel and plane tickets.”

However, many of Adele’s other fans were very supportive following her announcement, sharing their well wishes.

@Easy_slanguage replied: “Don’t be upset about it gorgeous”, while @Thekalenallen added: “Everyone will be right there ready to feel your love when the time is right!”

Adele has made tearful apologies to fans and promised that she will return to touring when ready.
