AIIMS ransomware attack: These online services are back at country’s premier medical institute
Media reports suggest that the online registration of new patients and follow-up registrations at the new Rajkumari Amrit Kaur (RAK) OPD at AIIMS Delhi have resumed. Other services such as the online appointment system are still down and laboratory services are operating in manual mode.
“Outpatient department (OPD) registration and admission processes were brought online in the e-Hospital system yesterday (Monday). The integration of the smart lab is being worked on for samples collected from all wards and collection areas for automated analysis and reporting. Additionally, agencies such as CERT, BEL, and DRDO are on the ground helping with the rollout,” news agency PTI quoted an official source as saying.
Other services at AIIMS resume to resume this week
Citing a source, news agency ANI reported that other online services at AIIMS Delhi will resume later this week. “Approximately 4,000 computers have been scanned and antivirus has also been uploaded for future safety,” a source was quoted as saying. The internet services are still blocked at the hospital.
Cyber attack investigation underway
A day after AIIMS was hit by the cyber attack, a case of extortion and cyber terrorism was registered by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police. Agencies including CERT-In, Delhi cybercrime special cell, Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, the Intelligence Bureau, the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the National Investigation Agency, are investigating the incident.
It is also reported that the team from the computer facility is conducting meetings and two analysts have been suspended for a data breach.
Cyber attack at Safdarjung hospital
Last week, Safdarjung Hospital also reported that it was hit by a cyber attack. “There was a cyberattack. Our server was also down in November for a single day, but data was secured. It was handled by IT, National informatics Centre (NIC) which revived the systems,” said Medical Superintendent Safdarjung Hospital Dr BL Sherwal.
