Alcatel Idol 5 And New Uni360 VR Headset Launched in U.S

Alcatel has announced the new mid-range smartphone, Alcatel Idol 5, in the U.S. The smartphone is comes with the price tag of $200 (Rs. 13,000 approx) and will be available exclusively on Cricket Wireless starting October 27th.

To recall, the Alcatel Idol 5 was first unveiled at IFA 2017 along with 3 other smartphones. Now, the company has has launched the Idol 5 smartphone in the U.S with few changes that included two front-facing stereo speakers and a dedicated hardware key called as Now Key. that’s located on the right side of the device and can be programmed to launch your favorite app, turn on the flashlight, take a selfie, and more. The smartphone can also be use upside down with the help of its reversible UI.

The Alcatel Idol 5 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and sports a 5.2” LTPS Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display. The smartphone is powered by up to 2.3GHz 64-bit MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor coupled with Mali-T880 MP2. It offers 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.

For photography, the Alcatel Idol 5 sports a 12MP rear camera with PDAF+ CAF and dual tone LED flash. On the front there is a 5MP selfie camera that too comes with LED flash. The smartphone is fueled by a 2,850mAh non-removable battery with MediaTek’s Pump Express fast charging technology which company claims can charge the device from 0% to 100% in 100 minutes. The device can give up to 23.8 hours of talk time and lasts up to 21 days on standby mode.

Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, FM Radio, GPS, A-GPS, NFC, 3.5mm audio port, and USB Type-C port. Sensors on board include accelerometer, ambient light, proximity, E-Compass, gyro, and hall switch. It measures 148.08 x 71.88 x 7.62 mm and weighs47 grams.

Alcatel has also revealed its new virtual reality headset alongside the Idol 5 called Uni360 — sold separately. It has lenses with a 120-degree field of view, adjustable top and side straps, and works with any Android smartphone sporting a screen size between 5 and 6-inches at the price of $49.99 (Rs. 3,300 approx)
