Andy Jassy, CEO, Amazon also reportedly earns big bucks. However, he did see his salary drop drastically in 2022. According to the annual proxy statement filed by Amazon, Jassy earned $1.3 million in compensation in 2022. However, in 2021, he was awarded stock options worth $212 million. This year Amazon didn’t give any new stock to Jassy, as per the filing.
A closer look at the figures do reveal that Jassy’s base salary, in fact, increased in 2022 by close to 81%. In 20221, Jassy’s base salary was $1,75,000 but in 2022, he earned $317,500 in 2022. Under the “All Other Compensation” component, Jassy saw an increase as well. In 2021, he got $34,381 whereas in 2022 the figure jumped to $9,81,223.
Stock options spread over 10 years
The $212 million awarded to Jassy in 2021 can be vested over 10 years. According to a report by Business Insider, the Amazon CEO vested close to $32 million in 2022. This year, it is expected that Jassy may vest close to $19 million, as per the report.
The filings also revealed that former Amazon CEO and one of the richest man in the world still gets a salary from the company. Bezos, who serves as the executive char at Amazon, received $1.68 million as compensation in 2022. Bezos’ base salary was $81,840. Under the “All Other Compensation” component, Bezos got $1.6 million. Interestingly, for the last three years, Bezos has been getting the same amount of compensation from the company he founded. Also, Bezos hasn’t been awarded any stock options in the last three years.
