Without officially even kicking off yet, CES 2023 is off to the races, with product reveals dropping left and right. AMD joins the flurry with the announcement of its Ryzen 7040 series processors. These processors, the company claims, can deliver up to 30 hours of battery life and will outperform competitors like the Apple M1 Pro in some instances. They also promise enhanced video and audio experiences as well as improved real-time gaming performance.

AMD launched the Ryzen 7000 line this past fall, kicking off with four desktop CPUs. Today, we finally have eyes on the Ryzen 7040 laptop CPU. For now, we haven’t been able to put the processors to the test ourselves, but we are certainly intrigued by AMD’s promises.

For starters, the Ryzen 7040 series is based on the 4nm process and includes on-chip AI aptly dubbed Ryzen AI. According to the company, it will help with tasks such as background blurring. Most importantly, it is the industry’s first mobile x86 processor to feature an AI on-chip. As AMD CEO Lisa Su stated in her keynote, “AI is truly the most important megatrend for the future of tech.”

Shoppers should be able to get their hands on the first devices utilizing Ryzen 7040 series processors this upcoming March, and expect more product drops featuring AMD’s new processors throughout the year.
