Fashion icon André Leon Talley has reportedly died at the age of 73. He served as Vogue’s first ever African-American creative director and editor-at-large from 1988 to 1995.
TMZ reported he died at White Plains Hospital from an unknown illness.
His career in fashion journalism spanned six decades, after he received a master’s degree from Brown University.
He was appointed to the role by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
Talley, who was a former judge on America’s Next Top Model, was known for his eye-catching outfits.

The book explored his life and career, having worked his way up from the front porch of his grandmother’s home in Durham, North Carolina, to being one of fashion’s top individuals.
But his 30-year friendship with Wintour eventually became fractured, where he described it as an “iceberg”.
“I hope that it will not be that forever,” he admitted during an interview with Gayle King in 2020.
Following the news of his passing, social media erupted with tribute left, right and centre from fans and celebrities alike.
