Angela Lansbury lived til 96 ‘full of energy’ – here’s how

Best known for her role in Murder, She Wrote – where she starred as Jessica Fletcher for 12 seasons of the TV series – Dame Lansbury previously revealed her tips for longevity. In 2018, when she was 93 years old, Dame Lansbury said: “I feel full of energy.” When it comes to how, the actress quipped: “I like a glass of wine and take a lot of vitamins. Perhaps that keeps me going.”

Even if Dame Lansbury was having one glass of wine daily, she would be drinking more than the NHS guidelines of 14 units per week, depending on the glass size.

Drinkaware pointed out that a medium, 175ml, glass of wine contains around 2.3 units.

Thus, within a week, one glass of medium wine equates to 16 units of alcohol.

Perhaps Dame Lansbury would only indulge now and again, or perhaps her glass was only a 125ml glass, which is equivalent to 1.5 units.

“Health care providers don’t recommend that you start drinking alcohol for heart benefits,” the experts stated.

“Especially if you have a family history of alcohol use disorder. Too much alcohol can have many harmful effects on the body.”

What about vitamin supplements?

The NHS confirms: “Most people do not need to take vitamin supplements and can get all the vitamins and minerals they need by eating a healthy, balanced diet.”

There are, however, certain vitamin supplements that are strongly recommended by the health body.

Vitamin D, for example, is one of them, which people are encouraged to start taking every year from October.

“During the autumn and winter, you need to get vitamin D from your diet,” the NHS states.

This is because the sun in the UK is “not strong enough for your body to make vitamin D”.

As such, people are recommended to take a daily supplement that contains 10mcg of vitamin D.

If you are unable to eat a well-balanced, varied and healthy diet, then supplements can be useful.

“Vitamins and minerals, such as iron, calcium and vitamin C, are essential nutrients that your body needs,” the NHS adds.

Considering Dame Lansbury’s busy work schedule, she could have benefitted from her supplements.

Dame Angela Lansbury passed away in LA on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
