Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin from the outer layer of the skin.

It can be done manually, with a skin scrub, or with an item like a body brush – although these should not be used on the face.

Some products use acids to exfoliate, known as chemical exfoliators.

Michelle said: “Exfoliating is a must for every anti-ageing skincare routine. When you exfoliate dead dull skin cells, you’re revealing the brighter and newer skin underneath

“You are also increasing cellular turnover, which softens and prevents fine wrinkles.”

The ageing expert added: “Be sure to exfoliate in the morning, because your serums will penetrate better and your makeup will sit nicer.”

Anti-ageing tips

Wear SPF

The sun’s rays damage the skin in numerous ways. Some are very serious, like causing skin cancer. Others are less so, like exacerbating signs of ageing.

Wearing skincare with an SPF every day is key to fighting the signs of ageing.

Drink water

Water is essential for the body to run properly. Good hydration makes you feel better, but also has been proven to fight signs of ageing on the skin.

Sleep well

Good sleep makes you look and feel younger. Adults need seven to eight hours a night.

Not only will this give you a more youthful glow, but enough sleep also fights against a number of other potential health issues too, including stress, obesity and stroke.
