In a recent interview, Anurag Kashyap got candid about the prevailing fear among the film industry about what content can be shown and what cannot. The director was asked if OTT content across streaming platforms has encouraged the kind of storytelling he does. To this, he answered that it is a double-edged sword.

The actor recently attended the BFI screening of his upcoming movie Dobaaraa. During the event, he answered multiple questions about the current restrictive atmosphere in the film industry.

“At the moment, we can’t do anything that is remotely political, or remotely religious. Those are big nos. And big nos not because anyone has said that you can’t do that, but because everybody is living in an atmosphere where they don’t know how anybody is going to react. Right now, we’re very fragile, we’re very easily offended. So, for creators in India, it’s a great time to create long-form storytelling and new experimental stuff, but at the same time, we are walking a very thin line.”

Dobaaraa is a remake of the Spanish film Mirage and centres around time travel and a parallel universe. The filmmaker recently completed ten years of his gangster-thriller Gangs of Wasseypur, speaking on the movie the director called it his ‘biggest undoing’. He added that once Dobaaraa releases he expects the audience to stop expecting gangster-thrillers of him again.
