Apple has extended the free service program for two iPhones in India. Launched in August 2021, the free repair program originally covered the two iPhones for two years from the sale date. Now, this has been extended to up to three years. Here are the key things to know about the free service program:
Which iPhone models are included in the program?
Only two iPhones — iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Apple early mentions that the“affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.” So if you have an iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro that were manufactured between the said dates and are facing issues, then you could qualify for a free repair. Do keep in mind that iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max models are not part of this program.

How to avail of the free service program?

Apple said that it had “determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience sound issues due to a component that might fail on the receiver module.” If you have the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro then you might be eligible to get it fixed free of charge. Your iPhone will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program.

What is the ‘issue’ with these two iPhones?

Can’t hear properly on the reIf your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service.

Other things to keep in mind

The free service program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro. Also, Apple categorically states that “if your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service.” In this case, you may have to pay to get the phone repaired first and then be eligible to get free service for the sound issue.
