Every company is trying to venture into gaming in some way or another, whether it is their own games, or accessories. Apple has also understood the growth of gaming in recent years and has provided their own spinoff on it which is called Apple Arcade. Apple Arcade is a line of exclusive games that can be played only on Apple devices. Now the plan to further increase their reach in this sector by developing an in-house controller.
According to the Patents filed by Apple and a report by Techspot, it seems like they are working on three types of controllers, there is no way of knowing whether they would release all 3 or just the best one out of them. The first style looks like any other console controller, Apple has already provided connection capabilities for controllers for Xbox and PlayStation, it seems like this style will be a spinoff on these two.
The second style seems like it has been inspired by Nintendo Switch. The controllers seem detachable and they connect on either side of the device through what seems like Apple’s MagSafe technology. Many would hope that these detachable sides will provide multiplayer capabilities and act as two different controllers when removed.
The third style that Apple seems to be working on is completely different, and has not been seen before. This style includes a foldable pad that looks like a case, the foldable pad will act as a flap on the screen which can be used when opened and can be used as a screen protector when closed. It seems like this design has been inspired by another Nintendo device, the GameBoy.
Apple working on gaming is something unheard of, apart from some mobile gaming applications. Every user always flocks towards a PC when they think about desktop gaming. It does not seem like Apple wishes to take over the Desktop gaming sector, but use their beautiful ecosystem to provide an integrated gaming experience which will include both portable and desktop gaming.
