Apple might launch a new MacBook and iPad Pro models with an OLED display in 2024, suggests Ross Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants. Young suggests that the MacBook launching in 2024 would be the MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch models are expected to come with an OLED display alongside the new MacBook in 2024.
“It is looking increasingly likely that Apple will launch a 13.3” OLED notebook in 2024 in addition to the 11” OLED and 12.9” iPad Pros. It is expected to be a MacBook Air, but could potentially become a MacBook, MacBook Pro or new category,” said Young in a tweet to his followers.
In another tweet, Young suggested that the OLED display in the three upcoming products would use the two-stack tandem structure, which allows for increased brightness and better efficiency. Furthermore, the OLED displays would have LTPO technology, which means that the display would support variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz. Apple calls it ProMotion, and it has been present in all the iPad Pro models since 2017, and even the new MacBook Pro 15-inch and 17-inch comes with ProMotion.
For now, Apple seems to be focusing on transitioning its Mac and iPad lineup to miniLED displays. Moving forward, OLED will be the next big feature for Macs and iPads, starting with the new MacBook and iPad Pros expected to come out in 2024.
