Apple releases critical security update for older iPhones and iPads

Apple has released iOS 15.7.4 and iPadOS 15.7.4, in addition to iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 updates. These latest versions are for older iPhones and iPads that cannot be upgraded to the latest iOS version.
It is highly advised for people using older iPhones or iPads to download the iOS 15.7.4 or iPadOS 15.7.4 update as it includes critical security patches.
iOS 15.7.4, iPadOS 15.7.4: What’s fixed
One of the most critical vulnerabilities the update addresses is a WebKit vulnerability that was already known to be actively exploited. WebKit is the browser engine used by Apple’s Safari browser, and the vulnerability could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on a user’s device if the user visited a maliciously crafted website.
Moreover, the update addresses a vulnerability that could potentially exfiltrate user information through a maliciously crafted calendar invitation. The issue was caused by multiple validation issues that have now been addressed through improved input sanitization.
Another issue that the security update has addressed is related to the camera on the same older Apple devices. A sandboxed app could determine which app currently uses the camera and which malicious actors could exploit it.
The security update, iOS 15.7.4 and iPadOS 15.7.4, is available for several older Apple devices, including iPhone 6s and 7, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPad Air 2, iPad mini (4th generation), and iPod touch (7th generation).
