Apple is rumoured to launch the AirPods Pro 2 later this year. Although the tech giant is not known to reveal any detail about its upcoming products, leaks around the next-generation AirPods Pro have been in circulation for quite some time. Now a report by Apple Insider suggests that the upcoming AirPods will sport a new design and powerful processor. It is also rumoured to have more health-focused features.
Apple AirPods 2: Design
When it comes to design, reports suggest that Apple may reduce the size of the stem or it may remove it altogether from the earbuds. White-plastic exterior and replaceable rubber tips will likely be the same. As the company may get rid of the stems, then it may have to change the design of the charging case as well. Apple is rumoured to pair the upcoming earbuds with a clamshell closing charging case.
Apple AirPods 2: Processor
Under the hood, the AirPods Pro are said to get a significant upgrade. As per Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, 2nd-generation AirPods Pro will be powered by H2 processor that will enable features such as auto-switching and on-device Siri controls. The new chip is also rumoured to boost the battery life of the earbuds.

In terms of features, the company is working on a new AirPods feature that will work when it hears a specific codeword. The report suggests that the feature is aimed to turn on/off noise cancellation. The technology that will enable the feature was recently spotted on Apple’s patent application. Apple is also reportedly working on AirPods with various health features including posture and body temperature monitoring. Apart from this, the Airpods will also have the ability to work as a hearing aid, reads a report by The Wall Street Journal. The claims are based on documents in which a prototype of these earbuds is seen with temperature sensors that monitor the wearer’s core body temperature from inside the ear.
