Apple’s upcoming ‘most affordable’ iPad may feature relocated TouchID and front camera, claims report

Apple could put the TouchID sensor in the upcoming 10th generation iPad in the Power button at the top instead of the Home button, a new supply chain report from Macotakara has claimed.
Leaked CAD schematics about the design of the upcoming iPad 10 indicate that the device could come with flat edges like that of the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini models. But the supply chain report says that while the new design schematics may be true when it comes to the overall dimensions of the device, they do not focus on the changes done to the front of the device as the CAD schematics are basically used by accessory makers to ready the cases and other related products for the device. Hence, for them, the overall dimensions of the device are of more value than changes like placing any physical button on the device in a new position.
Citing a supply chain source, the report says that “chassis size is the same as the leaked CAD data” but the “size of the front display and the position of the Touch ID button do not seem to be included in the CAD data.”
Further, the report says that the “Touch ID may be the same as the iPad mini” which points to the assumption that the new iPad 10 may have the Touch ID sensor located in the Power button rather than the Home button, just like the iPad mini and iPad Air. Also worth noting is that if the Home button gets removed, it leaves more space for the display. It would also be in line with tech journalist Mark Gurman’s latest claim, according to which Apple may increase the display size of the entry-level iPad from 10.2-inch to 10.5- or 10.9-inch.
The report also has another prediction regarding the design of the new iPad. It says that the “FaceTime HD camera will be significantly different, with one source saying that the FaceTime HD camera could be on the right side.”
Based on this report, we may expect relocated positions of the TouchID sensor and FaceTime HD camera on the new iPad but should wait for the official reveal which is expected to take place in October.
