Arsenal news: David Seaman highlights two transfer priorities for Mikel Arteta – EXCLUSIVE | Football | Sport

David Seaman believes that Arsenal should prioritise recruitment in defensive midfield and up front during the January transfer window. The former Gunner is over the moon about the club’s Premier League standing as manager Mikel Arteta will attempt to stave off the challenge of Manchester City over the second half of the season.

After missing out on the top four last campaign, not many expected Arsenal to hold a five-point lead over the World Cup break. With Argentina crowned champions, domestic action is just around the corner and the Gunners resume their Premier League bid against West Ham on Boxing Day.

Crucially, the January transfer window is also just a matter of days away and Arsenal’s hierarchy could look to back their manager to maximise the possibility of a first title win since 2003/04. Speaking to Express Sport at the Budweiser Fan Festival in London, Seaman claims that two positions should be addressed.

“We’ve got to be careful of injuries and the position we’re a little bit short on is defensive midfield players,” he said.

“At the moment we’re in a great place,” added Seaman. “I’m loving the fact that we’re top for the World Cup because last year we were bottom and Tottenham were top and it went to an international break. It was terrible for two weeks, now it’s great.

“We’ve got a great chance and this team at Arsenal has got a different mentality. I watched it against Fulham at the Emirates when we went 1-0 down. Last year, we would have panicked but this year we didn’t. We carried on playing and ended up winning the game. It’s a very different, experienced Arsenal team.”
