Attendance Allowance: What should be included in a successful claim for £92 a week payment | Personal Finance | Finance

Successful claimants will receive either £81.85 or £92.40 each week depending on the level of care they need because of their health condition. This is paid every four weeks and works out to £247.40 and £369.56 respectively each payment period. The DWP has continued to urge Britons to check what they are entitled to claim as a way of increasing their finances during the current cost of living crisis.

However, many applications for Attendance Allowance are turned down because people don’t mention or aren’t clear about how their illness or disability affects their lives.

Age and disability charities have provided guidance and advice on how people can make a successful claim for the benefit.

Age UK provided some “top tips” of what people need to consider when filling out an application form.

On the charity’s website, it states “it’s important to think about your specific needs”.

This is important as the DWP will use the form to decide whether someone is eligible for the Attendance Allowance support.

The main things the DWP will be looking for in an application will be what difficulties a person has, how much help they need, how often someone has difficulties or needs help, and what sort of support someone needs.

With Attendance Allowance, “personal tasks” mean things like getting in or out of bed, having a bath or shower, getting dressed, or being reminded or encouraged to eat or drink.

The Attendance Allowance application, otherwise known as the AA1 form, contains a number of “personal questions”, Age UK said.

DON’T MISS

The charity stated people should give “plenty of information in your own words” about their personal circumstances and should not be worried about repeating themselves or feeling embarrassed.

This is because the more information a person shares the better the chance of having a successful claim.

Before sending the form to DWP, people must also attach any supporting information including GP letters, their care plan or prescription lists as this evidence can strengthen someone’s claim.

Attendance Allowance is not means-tested and can be paid regardless of a person’s income, savings or National Insurance contribution record.

As well as qualifying for Attendance Allowance, a successful claim could allow people to claim Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or a Council Tax reduction.

Age UK reminds people that just because they have been refused before doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t reapply.
