BBC host Deborah James, 40, has issued an update to her followers amid her ongoing battle with stage four bowel cancer. In an Instagram story, the podcast host told her 392,000 followers that she is back in hospital for antibiotics.

Deborah shared another update this morning as she received further treatment amid her health battle.

In the video, she lay in a hospital bed with an IV attached to a port-a-cath on her chest.

She wrote: “I’m in hospital this morning for more antibiotics.

“I have a bed today, now I’m wondering why everything is white.

“Don’t get me started!”

Shortly after, she posted a photo of a ceiling which she had covered in flower emojis.

The host said: “Don’t mind me – just imagining a floral ceiling!

“Or maybe after two weeks of IVs the flowers would start to trip me out!”

“Why blue curtains? I always wonder if there’s a reason they can’t have some kind of Where’s Wally design to make the time go quicker!”

Earlier this week, Deborah revealed she had a near-death experience when she suffered a haemorrhage.

Speaking on her podcast, You Me and the Big C, she explained: “I started haemorrhaging. I vomited a litre and a half of blood within 30 seconds. I knew I needed to get to the hospital quick.”

The columnist rang her husband and 999 when her 12-year-old daughter walked in and found her “covered in blood” and “drifting out of awareness”.

The ambulance was a 30-minute wait, so her husband quickly put her in the car and rushed the BBC host to A&E.

In a heart-wrenching moment, Deborah admitted she believed that would be the last time she saw her children and the family were told she “may not survive the night”.

Thankfully, she pulled through and was able to return home to her family.

Deborah was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in December 2016 and has been vocal about the illness in a bid to raise awareness.

As well as documenting her cancer on her podcast, she has been a passionate advocate and patron of Bowel Cancer UK for more than five years.
