Big Bash League 2023 | Melbourne Renegades bowler David Moody pulled from attack for illegal deliveries
Melbourne Renegades quick David Moody’s spell against the Perth Scorchers was ended by umpires after just one legal delivery for bowling two beamers in the space of four balls.
Bowling the second over of the match, the big right-handed quick – who formerly played for the Scorchers – delivered a full toss to Cameron Bancroft with his second ball that hit Bancroft in the chest.
He followed that up with a wide, before bowling his second waist-high full toss – which was scooped away by Stephen Eskinazi for four.

Although there was no real trouble for the England international in dealing with the ball, Moody was not allowed to bowl for the rest of the day after two waist-high full tosses.
“That’s unfortunate for David Moody – obviously no one means to do that,” Mark Waugh said in commentary for Fox Sports.
“That’s very, very unfortunate.”
Eskinazi would finish with 54 off 29 and Bancroft, despite coming off worse for wear from that first Moody no ball hitting him in the ribs, 95 not out from 50 balls as the home team posted an impervious score of 5-212.
The Scorchers would eventually win the match, but it got a little hairier than expected.
With 74 needed to win off just 19 balls, Peter Hatzoglou was blasted for six by Will Sutherland on the last ball of his over, before Aaron Finch absolutely teed off on Andrew Tye.
The first four balls of the over went for ten, before a no ball was smashed for six, as was the ensuing free hit, and the seventh ball of the over to finish. 31 from it, and suddenly it was a remote target for the visitors, before a tight over from Aaron Hardie yielded just eight and left the Renegades needing 29 from the final six balls.
They got 19, ending a wild match and locking up top spot on the ladder for the Scorchers.
With the Sixers now finishing second no matter what, the league announced that the match between the top two, with the winner hosting the grand final, will be at Optus Stadium next Saturday at 7.15pm AEDT.
