Bowel cancer is also called colorectal cancer. It affects the large bowel, which is made up of the colon and rectum, and is the fourth most common cancer in the UK. Early signs can be found in your stomach with any these two unusual changes.
According to BMI Healthcare, pain or lumps felt in your tummy can signal the deadly disease.
Some tumours may grow big enough to be felt from the outside of the body.
If there is bleeding inside, it usually isn’t obvious.
However, a person may feel weak or tired because of severe anaemia caused by loss of blood.
“You may have pain or a lump in your stomach area (abdomen) or back passage. See your GP if these symptoms don’t go away or if they’re affecting how you sleep or eat,” Bowel Cancer UK states.
The bowel is part of the digestive system, which is necessary for breaking down food and moving undigested waste along towards the rectum to be excreted from the body.
Unsurprisingly, many symptoms involve a person’s stomach and can show up when you go to the toilet.
Having one or more risk factors doesn’t mean that you will definitely get bowel cancer.
The role of some parts of our diet remains unknown or uncertain but some foods can definitely affect the risk of bowel cancer.
Many studies have shown that eating lots of red and processed meat increases the risk of bowel cancer.
“It is estimated that around 13 out of 100 bowel cancer cases (around 13 percent) in the UK are linked to eating these meats,” reports Cancer Research UK.
