Many BT users will be left frustrated by the recent increase in broadband prices, as the company has raised its customers’ bills by 14.4 percent since the start of April. Even if you are in the middle of a contract, BT, along with many other internet service providers, has raised prices by up to 14.4 percent this month, and that’s not great considering the recent cost of living surges. As a result, millions of families are now looking for cheaper alternatives to their broadband.
For millions of customers who have stuck with their broadband provider past their minimum contract, now is the perfect time to switch to look for better deals.
While BT broadband may be on the pricier end of the spectrum, Plusnet, which is owned by BT, offers a significantly cheaper alternative.
The company, known for its chirpy Yorkshire-based mascot and low prices, now offers super-fast download speeds.
Since Plusnet is owned by BT and runs on Openreach’s nationwide network of broadband, so if you’re able to sign-up for the best BT broadband deals – you’ll be able to switch to Plusnet without a hitch.
If you opt for a 24-month contract, you can get Plusnet’s Unlimited Fibre deal for £22.99 per month, giving you speeds of 38 – 40Mb.
Meanwhile, if you are currently on BT’s Fibre Essential deal, you are paying £30.99 for comparable speeds of 35-36Mb.
It is important to note that there is currently a special offer on BT prices, and you can get the same deal for £26.99.
If these deals don’t cater to your speed requirements, you can also buy the Unlimited Fibre Extra deal on Plusnet, offering estimated download speeds of 64 – 72Mb for £24.99.
Meanwhile, BT’s comparable Fibre 2 broadband deal offers similar 63-73Mb download speeds for £34.99 a month, although you can currently get a discount on it at £29.99.
If 24-month contracts are too long for you, you can buy an 18-month deal, although this will be about £4 more expensive per month.
Unfortunately, Plusnet isn’t offering speeds up to 900Mbps quite yet (despite the Openreach full-fibre networks used by the company topping out at these download speeds) but we’d expect that to be introduced to the online store in the coming weeks and months.
However, broadband suppliers such as TalkTalk, BT and EE all offer access to these ludicrously speedy downloads via the same network.
