Bungie unlocks all standard Armor Mods for every Destiny 2 player

You get a mod, and you get a mod, and you get a mod

The next Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall, is right around the corner. And ahead of Lightfall, Bungie is making a big change to how Armor Mods are handled in Destiny 2.

In a tweet from earlier this week, the Destiny 2 studio announced that all standard Armor Mods in Destiny 2 will be unlocked for every player.

“With big changes coming to buildcrafting in Lightfall, we want to give everyone a chance to enjoy all mods in their current state,” reads the update. Notably, this doesn’t include non-standard Armor Mods, like Raid and Seasonal Artifact mods.

Armor Mods are essentially what they sound like: tweaks you can make in order to add some beneficial effects. Putting together the right combination is part of making your Destiny 2 build really come together.

The idea seems to be, as Bungie describes it, allowing players to tinker with builds without any restrictions. This makes it sound like mods are being made available so Destiny 2 players can mess around with what’s available now, and ahead of what could possibly shift in the new expansion.

The light falls

Other changes are being made too. Starting next week, focusing costs for Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, Crucible, and Gambit weapons and armor will be reduced down to 25 Legendary shards. Adept weapon focus cost will dip down to 50. And Grandmaster Nightfalls are due to arrive on January 17.

More information is expected in the upcoming This Week At Bungie (a.k.a. TWAB), the studio’s weekly update blog. It sounds like Lightfall is going to see some notable updates for the Guardians of Destiny 2. Guns and raids are one thing, but with armor also shifting, it’ll be interesting to see how crafting the perfect build shifts with the new expansion. Though honestly, I’m most interested in those sick grappling powers.

Destiny 2: Lightfall drops on February 28, 2023.
