Caitlyn Jenner slams ‘woke’ Nike for Dylan Mulvaney promotion | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Dylan Mulvaney, 26, took to Instagram this week to post a series of pictures and videos of herself in Nike workout gear, promoting their range of sports bras and leggings.

Former Olympian and transgender reality star Caitlyn Jenner, 73, has been an open opponent in the past of trans women that were born male competing in female sports.

This opinion has led her to slam Nike’s latest campaign as an “outrage” due to the brand’s involvement with Mulvaney.

She wrote on Twitter: “As someone that grew up in awe of what [Nike founder and former CEO] Phil Knight did, it is a shame to see such an iconic American company go so woke!

“We can be inclusive but not at the expense of the mass majority of people, and have some decency while being inclusive. This is an outrage.”

The Kardashians’ stepfather added that she doesn’t blame the TikTok star for accepting the deal, having done similar campaigns herself in the past.

She continued: “A little context…I did a collaboration with H&M (I have done many athletic brand collaborations over the years as a successful athlete). I don’t blame Dylan (smart move).

“I did not like how Nike treated Allyson Felix when she became pregnant. I spoke on the outrage of disparity in their pay.”

Caitlyn is referring to Allyson Felix, who left Nike in 2019 after alleging that the company failed to guarantee her contract when she became pregnant.

Felix had been working with Nike for almost a decade when she became pregnant, but claimed that they “weren’t willing” to support her “through starting a family”.

Caitlyn furthered her point, with one more point highlighting her view of the importance of the difference between a man and a woman.

She concluded: “EQUALITY > INCLUSIVITY (STOP TRYING TO ERASE WOMEN). The differences between men and women are real and are a good thing!

“It doesn’t make trans ppl a bad thing, either. Why is it so black and white with the RADICAL RAINBOW MAFIA?!”

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives of Mulvaney for comment.

In response to comments from Olympians at the time over Allyson Felix, Nike told TIME: “We regularly have conversations with our athletes regarding the many initiatives we run around the world.

“Nike has supported thousands of female athletes for decades. We have learned and grown in how to best support our female athletes.”

Nike acknowledged that some of its sponsored athletes had their sponsorship payments reduced because of pregnancies.

But the company says it changed its approach in 2018 so that athletes are no longer penalised.

This comes after Dylan addressed conservative criticism in her Live Day 365 show at the Rainbow Room in March, showing a compilation video of pundits misgendering her.

Despite boos from fans, Dylan said that she’s grown a thicker skin despite the criticism.

She told the audience: “I think we’ve established that I really like to talk. So I don’t think they’re gonna have the best luck silencing me.”

Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies is leading a boycott of Nike for its partnership with Mulvaney.

Nike has since issued its first response online, declaring it would delete comments it did not judge to be in a spirit of diversity or inclusivity.

The statement read: “You are an essential component to the success of your community.

“We welcome comments that contribute to a positive and constructive discussion.

“Be kind. Be inclusive. Encourage each other. Hate speech, bullying, or other behaviours that are not in the spirit of a diverse and inclusive community will be deleted.”
