Canadian Grand Prix qualifying LIVE: Lewis Hamilton disaster as Max Verstappen eyes pole | F1 | Sport
Lewis Hamilton’s problems have gone from bad to worse and it could be another terrible evening for the Brit when the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying gets underway. Mercedes have struggled with porpoising issues all season, which has left their drivers feeling sore and bruised.
The FIA has stepped in to protect the drivers with new rules to try and reduce the porpoising, which will likely make the cars slower. Hamilton called his new set-up “undrivable” during Friday’s practice session and then added: “The car is so bad. Nothing we do to this car generally seems to work.
“We are trying different set-ups. Me and George went with much different set-ups in this P2 just to see if one way works and one way doesn’t. I’ll wait to hear how it felt for him, but for me it was a disaster.
“It’s like the car is getting worse, it’s getting more and more unhappy the more we do to it. We will keep working on it. It is what it is. I think this is the car for the year [and it won’t improve]. We will have to tough it out and work hard on building a better car for next year.”
Max Verstappen is expected to the main challenger for pole position as Charles Leclerc will start from the back of the grid because his Ferrari has been fitted with a new engine.
