‘Can’t bear any more increases’ councils warn of ‘steep rises’ to council tax bills | Personal Finance | Finance
Two of England’s largest councils have warned the prime minister today they could be forced to declare bankruptcy in the next few months because of the cost of living crisis.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, co-presenter Susanna Reid said viewers have been telling them they can’t take any more price increases.
Turning to correspondent Richard Gaisford, she said: “People are getting in touch with us this morning saying they can’t bear any more increases to their bills considering the amount that budgets are being squeezed right now but the council where you are is saying the same thing about its own finacnes, isn’t it?”
Richard Gaisford replied: “Yes they are deeply worried about going bankrupt we have two big councils writing directly to Rishi Sunak today to say we cannot sit by and let two great counties sleepwalk into fianncial disaster.”
