Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic have thumped arch-rivals Rangers 3-0 to go top of the Scottish Premiership.

In front of a capacity crowd of 60,000 at Celtic Park, the home side needed just six minutes to find the back of the net.

A Rangers corner clearance landed at the feet of Japanese star Reo Hatate, who from just outside of the box found a way to thread it past Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor for the opening goal of the night.

But Hatate’s best was still to come.

Late in the first half, the Japanese star again found the back of the net with another stunning finish from outside the box, curling the ball and beating the Rangers goalkeeper to find the bottom corner.

Hatate then assisted after producing a stunning cross into the box for Liel Abada to pounce on just before halftime.

It was the first win for Celtic against their Glaswegian rivals in six league games.

For former Socceroos coach Postecoglou, it was his first win against Rangers after losing 1-0 in August.

“I’m super proud of the players, everyone knew it was a big game,” Postecoglou said after the win.

“We knew what it meant to our supporters, I thought our first half of football was outstanding.

“Quality play, great goals… in the second half we had to defend a bit more and we showed we could do that.

“I’ve been pretty fortunate, I’ve had some special moments in football – this one tonight is up there.”
