Nikon has announced that they are developing two new prime lenses for their full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras with the Nikon Z mount: the Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S, a fast mid-telephoto lens, and the Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8, a slim wide-angle lens.
The Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S is a new model of the S-Line Nikkor Z lens series and is known for its excellent rendering performance and attractive bokeh. It is ideal for portrait photography in various settings, such as weddings and fashion.
The Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8 is a compact and lightweight lens that delivers high rendering performance. It is well-suited for advanced amateur photographers who want to take their cameras with them wherever they go to capture important moments.
Nikon aims to advance the field of optical performance and meet the needs of its users, contributing to the evolution of imaging culture and expanding the potential for artistic expression through photography.
Although no release date or pricing information has been announced, both of these new lenses will be on display at Nikon’s booth at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 6-8.
Nikon reportedly exited the DSLR segment last year
Last year, Nikon reportedly pulled the plug on the development of new Digital Single Reflex (DSLR) cameras. Reportedly, Nikon will continue manufacturing the existing DSLR cameras but will not work on new models.
However, Nikon said that the report is only a speculation and the company has made no announcement regarding the discontinuation of DSLR cameras. “Nikon is continuing the production, sales and service of digital SLR. Nikon appreciate your continuous support,” said the company.
Nikon has stopped producing compact cameras and has also discontinued a significant number of full-frame and APS-C DSLR lenses and camera bodies in recent years. This is likely due to increased competition from smartphones in the compact camera market.
