Chatgpt: Here’s how sharing sensitive information on ChatGPT can be ‘dangerous’

0
ChatGPT was down for a lot of users earlier today. Many people on Twitter and other social media platforms reported the outage. The chatbot was not working for TOI-Gadgets Now team members as well. While the chatbot is back, its chat history feature is currently offline. As per a report, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, temporarily shut down this feature due to a bug that mixed users’ conversations – showing someone’s chat to someone else.
Bloomberg reported that OpenAI shut down the chatbot for some time in response to a bug. A spokesperson from the Microsoft-funded company claimed to the publication that the bug did not share full transcripts of conversations but only brief descriptive titles.
The TOI-Gadgets Now team was not able to access their AI chat history at the time of publishing this report.

OpenAI warning to users
In ‘ChatGPT General FAQ’, OpenAI has recommended users to “not share any sensitive information in your conversations” as the company is “not able to delete specific prompts from your history.”
It also said that users’ conversations may be reviewed by AI trainers to improve the systems. “As part of our commitment to safe and responsible AI, we review conversations to improve our systems and to ensure the content complies with our policies and safety requirements,” the company said.

‘ChatGPT services available’
Previously, OpenAI said that they identified the root cause of the issue “and are working on resolution”, however, it did not list what caused the problem.
Four hours later, the company said it was rolling out a fix to mitigate the issue. However, by this time, the conversation history was not available. On Tuesday morning, OpenAI said that it restored the service and was working to restore older conversations.
“We’ve fully restored ChatGPT service to all users. We’re continuing to work to restore past conversation history to users,” OpenAI said.
