ChatGPT is the new buzzword on Google: This country leads search interest list

Google searches for the word ‘ChatGPT’ have spiked globally, thanks to its ability to generate human-like responses, a new report has said. What’s interesting is that China is leading the list of countries as the interest in search for the text-based artificial intelligence tool hits a record high.
As per the data gathered by publisher Finbold, global Google searches for the word “ChatGPT’ spiked to hit a popularity score of 92 on January 13. “The score peaked at 100 for the week ending January 11. Notably, the term recorded a score of less than 1 as of November 30, 2022, when the tool was launched,” the report said.
The reason for the skyrocketing demand for ChatGPT is attributed to its functionality. The platform understands and gives surprisingly accurate feedback on diverse human inputs. Reports have suggested that ChatGPT can write code and even generate malicious mails with phishing links, among others. The “advanced and creative responses have overshadowed previous AI chatbots,” the publisher said.

ChatGPT country-wise popularity
China ranks top with a peak score of 100 as of January 13, followed by Nepal at 35, while Norway is third with a score of 28. Singapore takes the fourth spot with a score of 27 and Israel is in the fifth position at 26. India and the US failed to make it to the list of top 10 countries that recorded increased demand for ChatGPT.
“China is leading in ChatGPT demand despite reports indicating that local tech giants have expressed opposition to the tool. In this line, social media giant Tencent opted to remove ChatGPT-related programs from the WeChat platform,” Finbold noted.

ChatGPT is yet to be officially available in the country and the high demand in the country can be attributed to various factors like users opting to leverage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
ChatGPT limitations
Despite the success of ChatGPT, the AI chatbot developed by Microsoft-owned OpenAI, it has its limitations. The main drawback is that its knowledge is limited up to 2021. “Consequently, search engines have the upper hand over the ability to offer real-time information,” the report said.
