Benidorm, a long-time favourite destination for British tourists, was crowned this year’s cheapest beach hotspot.

According to Bounce’s research, the Spanish resort sells beers for just £2 while the average price of a hotel stay in August is £119 a night.

Tourists could also pick up a meal for just £10 in a cheap restaurant while enjoying average temperatures of 25 degrees.

The Balcon del Mediterraneo is Benidorm’s top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor and tourists can enjoy breathtaking vistas from the viewpoint.

A tourist ‘spisw’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Stunning views from here, both of the new and the old town. Really nice coffee shops and bars for a snack.”

Benidorm was Spain’s first-ever package holiday resort and underwent a huge transformation in the 1960s.

The city has over 1,000 bars and a large expat community. It was also the first place in Spain where tourists could legally wear a bikini.

Another Spanish hotspot took second place on the list. Valencia is a sunny port city and the birthplace of paella.

Porto has a lot of beaches to discover but tourists could also head into the Douro Valley to sample some of the region’s wines.

Bodrum in Turkey was the fourth cheapest destination for a bargain beach break. A meal at a cheap restaurant cost just £4 in the resort town while a beer came in at just £2.

The Greek capital, Athens, grabbed fifth place. The city isn’t known for its beaches but is a great starting point for a trip to some of the country’s most incredible coastlines.

Alicante and Barcelona also made the top 10 for Spain while Faro and Lisbon rounded off the top three for Portugal.
