Sources close to the 39-year-old singer Cheryl explained that after Liam Payne, 29, officially broke things off with Maya Henry, the two have grown close, so much so that they have been discussing having another child together, a sibling for their five-year-old son Bear. This came after fans were initially shocked to see Liam attend the red-carpet charity fundraiser in memory of late Girls Aloud bandmate, Sarah Harding.

The former X Factor judge joined her former bandmates, Nadine Coyle, 37, Nicola Roberts, 37, and Kimberley Walsh, 40, to host The Primrose Ball at a swanky London hotel in honour of Sarah, who tragically lost her battle with breast cancer last year at just 39.

After rumours circulated about the pair rekindling their romance, insiders told Closer that Cheryl is “longing for another baby” and would not want to have one with anyone else apart from Liam.

A source told Closer: “Since Liam’s split from Maya [Henry] earlier this year, Cheryl’s come to lean on him more than ever – he’s becoming the closest person in her life and the one she sees most out of all her close friends, and even family.”

With Cheryl worried that the “clock is very much ticking” for her to have a baby, the source went on to say that the singer has considered numerous fertility options.

But with Liam coming back into her life, Cheryl has prompted the subject of him “fathering another child with her instead of her going down the complicated fertility route of sperm donors and IVF”.

The source added: “They already have a beautiful son together and Cheryl would love him to have a full-blood sibling, so it’s something they’ve been discussing and Cheryl is very much hoping it happens in the not-too-distant future.”

Knowing how well they both co-parent, Cheryl is said to have insisted there is “no one else she’d want to have a baby with” and was “distraught” when Liam reunited with Maya, 22, amid fears her baby dreams had been crushed for good.

“Even if she met someone now, she would wait at least a year to have a child with them, and at that point it might be too late, which Liam understands,” the source continued.

Cheryl has made it clear in the past that she has always longed for a big family. Even when married to former footballer Ashley Cole, Cheryl was quoted saying that she wanted as many as four or five children.

Divorcing after their four-year marriage, Ashley has gone on to have two children with model Sharon Canu.

For Cheryl, following a brief marriage to Jean Bernard Fernandez Versini, she met Liam. The pair split the year after they had Bear in 2017.

Following their breakup, Liam opened up about his battle with mental health and his struggle to adjust to being a younger dad at the age of 23.

Speaking in a 2019 interview, Liam said: “I started in a bad place with it. It spooked me out early on, and I was worried I wouldn’t be enough to look after both of them.

“Becoming a dad at such a young age, it’s such a difficult thing. I think I built fatherhood up so much in my head that it kind of messed me up to start with.”

It was this experience that his friends say is one of the things holding Liam back from fathering another child.

The source says: “Liam’s still torn as he knows how much Cheryl wants this and he’s also longing to have more children, but he’s crippled with anxiety that history is going to repeat itself.

“He’s in a much better place and Cheryl’s been an amazing support to him, but he’s understandably being cautious.”

Following Sarah’s tragic death, Cheryl opened up about her grief – telling her 3.5 million Instagram followers she was trying to “navigate my way through these painfully strange and horribly unfamiliar waves of disbelief and finality.”
