Christina Aguilera spoke out on her virginity days after announcing she will be co-launching a new sexual wellness brand.

The Genie In A Bottle star sent fans crazy in her early days when she strutted around the stage in chaps and shared a kiss with Madonna while Britney Spears looked on, but she told the world in a new podcast her raunchy and sexualised image was a million miles from who she truly was behind the scenes.

Opening up on her presumed promiscuity, Christina told host Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast that she’d been so busy building her career that thoughts of sex and love had to take a back seat.

“It’s so funny that I gave this [sexual] persona because I probably was, like, the last person to lose my virginity,” she confessed.

“It was later than you would think, given [I was] the girl who was doing Dirrty and all this.”

Christina, who is now 42, was 22 when the controversial single came out, and she was pictured topless for the CD’s cover art, with her modesty only maintained by her long hair.

That same year, she posed totally nude on the cover of Rolling Stone, with just a strategically placed guitar disguising her body shape.

It was a dramatic departure from the innocent image fans had been accustomed to seeing her portray on Disney show The All New Mickey Mouse Club, alongside the likes of Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and Britney Spears.

Christina still feels infuriated by her perception that Justin, who collaborated with her on tour in those days, received less scrutiny when he went on to develop an adult persona than she did.

“I went on tour with Justin… and there were things where I was just like, ‘Why is it okay for him and not okay for me?'” she raged on the podcast, hitting out at “double standards” between the genders.

The Grammy Award winning songstress told the Sydney Morning Herald at the time, during a 2003 interview, she had been consciously trying to rebel against her innocent image.

“The label (RCA Records) wanted to push the cookie-cutter, kind of play-it-safe, almost virginal kind of imagery that wasn’t me,” she claimed.

“I really wanted to squirm away from that, because I really thought it was really fake and superficial and untrue of what I was about.”

However, speaking now, Christina wanted to make it clear she wasn’t quite as raunchy as people might have thought.

She revealed she didn’t feel keen to date others in the showbiz industry, branding it a magnet for narcissists.

“This is a very narcissistic industry [and] my life is hectic enough,” she exclaimed on the podcast.

Fearing a cheating partner, she elaborated: “My anxieties couldn’t take somebody who did the exact same thing I did and ran around and travelled. I know how that goes… I’m too sensitive to be so paranoid!”

Meanwhile, Christina has also revealed she is the co-founder of all-female run sexual wellness brand Playground, which urges women to “engage [their] fantasies” and “feel empowered” by their identities in the bedroom.
