The Cold Weather Payment has been replaced in Scotland by the Winter Heating Payment, a one-off payment of £50 regardless of the weather.
The same eligibility criteria apply to this benefit, which is administered by Social Security Scotland.
Anyone who has not received a Cold Weather Payment, but believes they should have, can contact their local DWP office or JobCentre for guidance.
Richard Neudegg, director of Regulation, Compliance and Policy at USwitch, spoke about why the scheme is useful in helping people with their skyrocketing energy bills.
He explained: “Temperatures have plummeted overnight, and the Government will be issuing £25 Cold Weather Payments to those eligible and living in the coldest areas.
“Cold Weather Payments help many vulnerable households including older people and disabled families to keep the heating on when they might not be able to afford it.
“Nearly £100million was paid out in 2020-2, and higher bills this winter mean the payments are more valuable than ever this year.”
