Collingwood confirm Jordan De Goey return, US court matter conclusion, New York night club

Collingwood has confirmed Jordan De Goey will return to regular AFL commitments following his alleged incident at a New York nightclub last year.

De Goey and his friend were arrested at the PHD rooftop bar in New York in October.

It was revealed yesterday that the 25-year-old’s charges had been downgraded in a US court.

In a statement released this evening, the Magpies confirmed De Goey will now return to the club as early as tomorrow following a “conclusion to the legal matter” engulfing the forward.

“The Collingwood board has considered an agreement on a conclusion to the legal matter faced by Jordan De Goey in the US, which was reached late today,” the statement read.

“As a result of this in-principle resolution and based on further undertakings given by Jordan to the club, Collingwood has reinstated Jordan to its AFL program.

“Jordan is able to return to training as of tomorrow, January 21. He was stood down on October 31, 2021.

“He will do so under club imposed terms that he has agreed to.”

As part of his return to the club, De Goey will have to undergo further support off the field with health professionals, as well as a part-time commitment to work with the Salvation Army.

Cornes puts the heat on De Goey

“Jordan is a Collingwood player and like all of our players he will be supported with everything that we have. We want our people, including those who make mistakes, to know what Side by Side means,” said Collingwood president Jeff Browne.

“We are pleased that the matter is resolved and Craig McRae and his team can get on with the pre-season.”

The club confirmed that De Goey pleaded guilty to a second degree harassment violation, but that no criminal conviction would be recorded.

An “agreed settlement” will be sealed this month according to the Magpies.

“The club remains of the view that it was appropriate to stand De Goey down until the various charges he faced were dealt with,” part of the Collingwood statement read.

“With Jordan pleading guilty to a second degree harassment violation and agreeing to an order to commit to a corrective program in Australia, and all other charges dropped, the matter is resolved.

“A second degree harassment violation will not result in a criminal conviction.

“The club received in writing today an agreed settlement that is expected to be ratified at a hearing in the US on January 28.”
